MOLD INSPECTION

A Mold Inspection, which is different from a Mold Assessment, is a preliminary step provided by Healthy Spaces to help you determine whether you have a mold problem, and what potential remediation steps would be appropriate as a solution. This includes a review of the Signs of Mold, as well an explanation as needed of the steps Healthy Spaces follows to help rid your home of mold and return it to a healthy space.

1 . Identtify The Problem

There are many types of mold, and none of them will grow without water or moisture. Mold begins growing when spores land on surfaces that are wet or damp. To mitigate the issue, you need to identify the source of moisture and correct that problem first. After you safely remove the mold, you can be comfortable it won’t return.

2 . Use The Right Equipment.

Mold spores – especially spores disrupted during mitigation – can easily spread throughout your home, increasing health aggravations and spreading mold to previously uncontaminated areas. The proper equipment ensures this doesn’t happen, and that the mold is contained within a sealed-off area.

3 .Manage The Water

Over time, buildings begin to settle, foundations crack, and water seeps in. Aside from damaging just about everything it comes into contact with, a water leak can pose serious health risks by cultivating mold and mildew. The solution is to manage the water and humidity in your home, preventing the cultivation of mold.

4 . Repair The Damage

Mold Assessments

All Mold Mitigation efforts should begin with an assessment of your unique situation.

Under New York State law, the mold assessment and the mold remediation services must be performed by two different entities – the same person or business cannot do both. This law helps prevent the homeowner or business owner with the mold concerns; beware contractors that say that can do assessments under the same company that will do your mold mitigation services.

Healthy Spaces Inc. is certified as a mold mitigation specialist in NY State. We can recommend one of several Mold Assessors that we commonly work with and manage the process for you, or you can contact a Mold Assessor of your choice directly. Either way, we will walk through the assessment with you and recommend the best strategies to mitigate your mold problems.

Signs of mold

At times, the evidence of mold in your home or business is unmistakably visible – from mold spores that cause dark or black spotting and staining on walls and cabinetry, to decaying wood and structural damage. However, often visible signs are not readily apparent.

    1. You can see it. Visible staining or dark spotting on walls, cabinetry, or other items such as boxes     or books – though often visible signs are hidden behind walls.

    2. You can smell it. Musty odors in your basement or attic – or coming through your air or dryer     vents.

    3. You have collected moisture or standing water. Water and moisture is the perfect     environment for mold to thrive in and grow.

    4. You or your family experience related health issues. Mold spores and toxins cause respiratory      issues and allergy symptoms; if the source of the problem is left unchecked, these issues can       become serious.
